MARK
TEAL

Mark Teal currently serves as an Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Marching Band at Duncanville High School as a part of the Duncanville Independent School District in Duncanville, Texas.  Prior to his position in Duncanville, he served as Assistant Director of Bands at Clark High School in Plano, Texas.

Mark’s duties during the school year include teaching and conducting the Honors Band and assisting with the other four bands at Duncanville High School. Mr. Teal also serves as director of the Duncanville Marching Band.  The Duncanville High School Marching Band has been the UIL State 5A Champion in 1986, 1990, and 2002.  DHS is the only 6A band in Texas to advance to the State Contest every year since 1988. Mr. Teal’s concert bands at Duncanville have also exclusively received superior ratings and won best in class at multiple festivals and contests. Mark has been involved in the Duncanville Wind Ensembles 2005 appearance at the Midwest Convention and Clinic and the 2008 5A TMEA Honor Band Concert (Duncanville HS) and CCC TMEA Honor Band Concert (Byrd MS). Duncanville High School Band holds both the Sudler Flag and Shield for excellence.

In 2002, Mark earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, Mark performed with the Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporan where he performed at TMEA, ABA and can be heard on numerous recordings produced by Klavier Records and GIA.  Mr. Teal also performed in the Graduate Classical Percussion Ensemble directed by Mark Ford, Pop Ensemble directed by Paul Rennick, and the 2000 PAS Champion UNT Indoor Drumline led by Paul Rennick.  At the 2000 PAS Convention in Dallas, Mark was named the College Keyboard World Champion.

Mark spent four years, 1996, 1998-2000 as a member of the front ensemble with Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. He has been a staff member with Carolina Crown (2001, 2004), the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2005-2010) and the Santa Clara Vanguard (2011) serving as a front ensemble technician. During those years, Phantom Regiment won three Fred Sanford Top Percussion awards (2006, 2008, and 2010) and the DCI World Championship in 2008. Since 2015, Mark has served as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International.

Mark Teal is an active arranger, adjudicator and clinician where he has written for many top bands throughout the country, regularly judging solo, ensembles and band contests and has presented clinics at the Western Band Association Convention, the Percussive Arts Society Convention and the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention.

Mark has professional memberships with TMEA, TBA, PAS, and Phi Mu Alpha.​ Mark is also an educational artist endorser for Dynasty Instruments and Innovative Percussion.
